The World Café

The origins of The World Café (shaping our futures through conversations that matter) were explained to me by Kevin Watson, @kjcoach, trainer & consultant delivering leadership and team development programmes for the 21st century.

I connected with Kevin on LinkedIn and later invited to meet with him for a one to one conversation at Morgan’s Hotel, in Swansea. During our second meeting, Kevin lent me his edition of The World Café book. The World Café is a flexible, easy-to-use process for fostering collaborative dialogue, sharing mutual knowledge and discovering new opportunities for action.

The book

” Using seven design principles and a simple method, the World Café is a powerful social technology for engaging people in conversations that matter, offering an effective antidote to the fast-paced fragmentation and lack of connection in today’s world.

Based on the understanding that conversation is the core process that drives personal, business, and organizational life, the World Café is more than a method, a process, or technique – it’s a way of thinking and being together sourced in a philosophy of conversational leadership”.

This philosophy again, summed up by ˜John Seeley Brown who said:

“It’s never enough just to tell people about some new insight. Rather, you have to get them to experience it in a way that evokes its power and possibility. Instead of pouring knowledge into people’s heads, you need to help them grind a new set of eyeglasses so they can see the world in a new way.”

Several magical collective wisdom style conversations later, arranged at both Morgans Hotel, Miskin Manor and on Skype, I am able to share great insights from conversations with other strategists, who I believe help people to see the world in a more connected way.

You can follow more of my café style conversations on Breathing for Business scoop.it.

I’d love to hear what conversations have helped you in your business?

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to invite people to share their insights and wisdom for a café style conversation.

The World Café

The origins of The World Café (shaping our futures through conversations that matter) were explained to me by Kevin Watson ( a coach, trainer & consultant ) delivering leadership and team development programmes for the 21st century. I connected with Kevin on LinkedIn and later invited to meet with him for a 121 conversation at Morgan’s Hotel, in Swansea. During our second meeting, Kevin lent me his edition of The World Café book.

Here’s ‘about’ the book:

” Using seven design principles and a simple method, the World Café is a powerful social technology for engaging people in conversations that matter, offering an effective antidote to the fast-paced fragmentation and lack of connection in today’s world.

Did that spark an interest in business? was my last blog for ecademy. In it I share some insights from conversations with other strategists, who I believe help people to see the world in a new way.

I have remained a member of ecademy – now Sunzu, because of my love of networking with the wider global business community and my love of blogging. Lyndon Wood became the new owner of Ecademy in the summer. Seeing Lyndon’s name pop up on the various social media networks, I began to sense his excitement about social media conversations that matter. Thrilled that Ecademy had a new owner from Caerphilli in South Wales, I invited to meet with him. Lyndon, kindly presented me with a copy of his book, Diary of a Fortune Hunter. Since that meeting Lyndon has been working quietly on his new social media Sunzu launch. I for one, wish him well.

Sunzu will give the opportunity for hundreds of interesting people to blog, comment, meet and develop new ways of engaging socially, giving referrals and trading. My wish is that we members create opportunities for conversations that matter in business.
